Three-leaf Goldthread (Coptis trifolia) is a small member of the Buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) found in the moist soil of woodlands.  The flowers only reach 2-3 inches in hieght and its three-parted leaves are evergreen and found close to the ground.  The plant blooms in spring, and is easy to overlook.
